Oftentimes struggling home business owners can’t seem to pinpoint the source of their troubles. More often than not, they blame their unwanted circumstances on lack of time or money and believe that if they had more of each, things would get better.

The technician role involves being the front line for promotion and delivery of your product or service and taking care of customer service issues. It includes the creation and maintenance of the product and most hands-on tasks.
The managerial role involves overseeing daily operations ranging from administration to production to making sure the facilities are taken care of. Ensuring all systems and processes are working in concert is the primary objective.
The entrepreneurial role is that of the visionary, focusing on long-term planning and seeking out opportunities to grow.
Unfortunately, what often happens in home business is the owner spends most, if not all, of his effort on the technician and managerial roles leaving no time to fulfill the entrepreneurial responsibilities.
The owner finds himself caught up meeting the daily whirlwind of activities with no deliberate or planned movement toward a future vision.
The biggest myth around running a home business is that you have to do it alone. I love a quote a colleague once shared. He said, “You are in business alone, but you don’t have to do it alone.”

Instead of struggling through all of your responsibilities alone, learn to ask for help.
Seek out a successful businessperson and ask her if she would be willing to mentor you.
Join or form a mastermind group of business people you respect. If you feel you would have nothing to contribute, think again. The fact that you are willing to organize and facilitate a meeting made up of respected entrepreneurs might be enough of a reason for them to join. They may have been hoping to work with certain colleagues, but never had the time to put a group together.
Look for a business coach. You can expect a cost to be involved, but it’s not impossible that a coach would consider bartering with you. For example, if you are an interior designer and a coach finds herself in need of one, she may be willing to trade services.
You never know until you ask.
Remember, you are what you repeatedly do. Wear your entrepreneur hat and dedicate a significant portion of your time to entrepreneurial duties every day. If you spend eight hours a day performing technician or managerial duties, it won’t be long before you find yourself back at a job doing what you’ve been doing all along.

Don't set your Wi-Fi card to allow automatic connection to any available network.
Check the list of available SSIDs to make sure you're connecting to the right one.
Turn off the ad-hoc mode allowing other clients to connect directly to you.
Turn off your Wi-Fi card entirely as soon as you're finished.
Use the personal or enterprise version of 'AirDefense', whichever may be appropriate.
Although a firewall won't keep you from connecting to an 'Evil Twin' it will help to safeguard your information should you inadvertently fall victim.

Mutual funds fees are "hidden," in the sense that they do not charge you an upfront fee but rather a percentage of the amount of money in your account. If this percentage is too high, you would do better just blindly picking stocks yourself.
Here are five helpful tips for choosing the right mutual funds.

1. Keep the fees low. Generally, expense fees should not be much higher than 1% if it is just a basic domestic equity fund. You should never invest money in a fund that also charges a "load," which is an additional fee that is ridiculous to pay. Never invest in funds that charge loads; those funds are for suckers.
2. Check the asset base. Mutual fund managers only know of so many good investments. When they have too much money to manage, they begin investing in stocks they don't like much but need to invest in anyway or else they'll just have money laying around. 4. Evaluate the fund's strategy. If you have a long term outlook, look for a more aggressive fund that invests in small-cap stocks, international stocks, and riskier stocks in general. High risk tends to result in high performance in the long run. If you are more risk-averse, consider an S&P 500 index fund.
5. Keep the fees low. Did I mention this already? Well, I'll mention it again. This is where most people mess up. Make sure you are not paying a load or paying too much in fees to the mutual fund.

Go to “Advanced Reports” and create a day by day, aggregate data report for your last month of earnings.
Export the report into excel.
Go through day by day and highlight your 10 biggest earning days. You will research these later.
Once you know your 10 biggest earning days, match them up to the blog posts that made you that income.
Make a list of the topics the highest earning posts covered. The more detail you review the better.
Try to hit these topics in future posts when you want to increase your earnings.
Be sure to test whether you want more or less adsense ads. Test both for a few days each. Different topics work better for different ad placements. (Or see what John does on this blog. His blending is excellent and his contextual matching is right on target.)
If you review your AdSense earnings breakdown each month, your income will gradually rise. No matter how much advertising income you have made, you can almost always do better. It just takes a little time but is well worth it.

Some days I can earn $2-$3 per site for a couple of clickthroughs from these low traffic sites. This denotes HIGH interest from advertisers paying big bucks to Google for certain keywords.
Unbelievably, many entrepreneurs are earning six figure incomes per month from adsense revenue alone.
The smart earners are building site after site then building out the ones that show potential.
The idea is to set up sites in relatively unknown markets but also balanced with some interest in the advertising field. After the 52nd person signed up, he was making a profit. Although he didn't actually start his famous airline until later, this was the inspiration. A problem is sometimes an opportunity - but only if you approach it that way. This one lead to the creation of a major airline.

Attitude

Many people when talking about attitude make a statement like 'There is nothing you can not be. There is nothing you can not do. There is nothing you can not have!'
They use positive and transitional words like Self-Confidence, Motivation, Discovery and Goal Focused. In my mind the words that are often missed out that actually make the above words come true are Reality, Perception, Realisation and Responsibility.
Everyone knows that in REALITY everyone cannot possibly have everything. But if the statement is true then everyone would be rich, have no bills, have lots of holidays and ultimately be busy in doing nothing!
This statement can be true though - It’s all about PERCEPTION. If one perceives that goals orientated to material gain is then achieving, then this goal is near impossible for greed will come into play since greed can never be satisfied. But if one perceives that happiness is the goal then everyone can make everything happen in order to attain that happiness – the result of which being at peace.
Once we can see this then everything is easy. Ah the REALISATION of it all. Many people do see this – the path to peace – but choose the way of material gain for it brings instant success. This is not wrong for everyone likes to have the nice things in life and have a life which is stress free & peaceful. But the rich are just as unsatisfied as everyone else, the elite sportsman are just as frustrated as everyone else and the great leaders are just as vulnerable to make the wrong decision as everyone else.
Thus in the end it is our own RESPONSIBILITY in choosing the path we decide based on the goals we want. Make the goals attainable then the goals can be reached – if goals are to be reached then we are happy. This is the attitude everyone should have.
Attitude in a certain context denotes a state of mind, mood, viewpoint, outlook, or belief. It expresses its results and effects through dynamic, progressive social movements that change conditions, events and the course of life in positive, life-sustaining directions.
To us that can mean lots of things or nothing at all.
So lets think about being positive and choosing your attitude…
Being positive can be a state of being, your state of being determines the choices you make, your choices determine your actions, and your actions produce your results.
Depending on your positive or negative state you will make vastly different choices.
For example you’re sitting on the couch one sunny Saturday afternoon in a positive mood wondering what you should do for the afternoon. The phone rings and a friend invites themselves over for coffee and a chat. You accept the invitation and have a wonderful afternoon together.
But if you were in a negative state then when the phone rings, you may not have answered it at all.
We make many choices everyday. When you choose to be in a positive frame of mind you are more open and willing to do things, are happy and are more likely to succeed. Being in a negative state, you withdraw and block your vision and you are guaranteed to fail.
Simple choices present themselves each morning for example, each morning one can say ‘I am going to have a fantastic day today’ and choose to be in this state or ‘allow negativity to set in and be doom and gloom’. It’s your choice.
However easier said than done? Yeah, so where does this positive attitude come from?
It comes from your inner belief based on realistic and achievable goals. Your belief comes from planning and planning comes from your vision and goal setting. The positive attitude thus comes in having realistic, achievable and measurable goals teamed with an inner belief that you ‘know’ you can achieve this or these things.
So can you do anything and have everything? I believe so but it depends on your Perception, and what you want!
For me attitude is based on one’s perception on what your path is in attaining your goal.
For if my goal is material based then those who do not share the same goal will believe I have then wrong attitude (I too will believe they have a negative attitude in me achieving what I want).
But those who share the same goal and are envious will have a very negative attitude towards me for they want to (and can not) reach the same goal.
So what is the difference then between a positive & negative attitude?
Instead of trying to find the answer to this in terms of psychology, behaviour and culture, one can look at it in a more simplistic view.
If my reality is that I can’t sing then dreams of winning Australian Idol, being a pop singer and singing in the Sydney Opera House are totally unrealistic. If I were gifted with such a talent then maybe I could chase this dream. But if I’m not and I like singing then a goal of singing in my local theatre group is more realistic and thus achievable.
All of us affect, in one way or another, the people around us. People sense our aura and are thus affected by our state. It happens instinctively and on a subconscious level.
People react/act differently to a person who is full of energy to that of a person who constantly moans. This difference can be seen when the two people are talking about the same thing.
For example lets take the problem of not getting a promotion at work. The person full of energy will ‘shun the establishment’ then find a way of gaining more skills to help their career at the same company or learn the skills to move on to a company which provides better progression.
The person who moans will also ‘shun the establishment’ but then do nothing but constantly moan and complain through out their continued service at that company.
So attitude plays a part in how one over comes obstacles as well as how one enjoys ones success.
So how do I get this attitude?
· Listen to your self-talk and choose your state
· Work out what your realistic and achievable goals are and make plan
· Believe in yourself and your abilities
· Act with confidence
· Contain your reactions
· Appreciate what you have, if you’re not happy with what you see do something about it, change and take action!
· Surround yourself with positive people!
If you do this after a while you will start to gain much more value in your life by being positive and achieving realistic and achievable goals that you won’t want to have anything to do with negativity again!
If my reality is focused and my perception of my goals are clear I can easily see where I want to and can attain happiness, thus go forth with a positive attitude. With this realisation in mind I simply take it on myself to do what needs to be done in order to achieve my goal.
This for me is Attitude - striving to meet attainable goals that are in the benefit of not only myself but everyone around me.
Trying to achieve something that I was always going to fail creates negativity in me and thus I adversely affect those around me.

Feeing Better Right Now

Feeling better involves taking a series of steps. But a common problem I've had - and I've seen in many others - is they just want the success (whatever it is) without having to take the steps to get there. I call it the 'visualize winning the lottery' syndrome.
"I don't want to succeed - I just want the success." This mindset is universal and has been highly exploited by many advertising and marketing people.
"Get Rich Without Working!!"
"Lose Weight While You Sleep!!"
Lot of appeal in those statements, isn't there? I've fallen for those lines a few times myself. But let me tell you a simple and profound truth: the steps to getting there, are the qualities of being there. And the qualities of being there are the steps to getting there.
Succeeding = the steps to getting there.
Success = the qualities of being there.
The secret - if there is one - is to fall in love with the process of succeeding. Any success, large or small, involves a series of steps that could be viewed as a process. You start at the beginning - step by step - until you reach the conclusion. Then you either repeat the process or you move on to other successes and other processes.
Let's look at the particular success of feeling better. Emotional contentment. To feel good - to feel good about yourself and your life - to feel emotional contentment - involves a series of steps. It's a process.
It starts with an awareness of your current situation. Not in a judgmental, condemning way, but from a more objective, realistic viewpoint. Find the realness of your situation without interpreting that realness.
For example, I might be in pain. To me, that's real. But then I may also blame my pain on someone or something else. That's not real, and will prevent me from moving forward.
Find the realness. State the facts. With no taint; no twist of interpretation. Step one. Know where you are with as much clarity as possible. Most people will never get past this first step because of an arrogant refusal to see the reality of their situation.
But if you want to succeed - if you want the success of feeling better - you MUST find the realness. It's one of the steps to feeling better, and it's also one of the qualities of being there - of actually feeling better.
I want to carry my blame with me, all the way to the end of the process, but it will never happen. Instead, I need to find the allure of realness. I need to find the love of being real. I need to fall in love with being real.
I have to get to the point where I prefer to be real, as opposed to blaming (or whatever else may be standing in the way of my realness).
Clarity - awareness - crystal-clear perception of my current situation - is the first step to feeling better. It's also one of the qualities of a person who lives a life of feeling good. Often times, we want to just feel good, but we don't want to take the steps of getting to that point of feeling good.
So what's the answer? Well, first of all, just being aware of this trap. Seeing the realness of it. Finding the motivation to change. Taking a small step forward; maybe flirting with the idea of realness - trying it on like a new pair of shoes. Loving and accepting yourself for NOT being real up till now. And so forth.
See what we've got here? A process within a process! It may take a whole complete process just to complete step one of the larger process.
I want to feel better. But I'm stuck in blame or pity or whatever. And to even get to the realness of my situation I've got to take a series of steps.
What's common to all the steps no matter the unique situation? What's the glue that holds it all together? What will keep you moving forward?
Willingness. I might not be willing to let go of my pity. I might not be willing to even look at it in an honest manner. But I can be willing to someday be willing. I can be willing to acknowledge there is a problem.
I can be willing to be willing later on at some point in the future.
Find what you ARE willing to do to succeed. Start there. Find your current level of willingness.
Willingness is totally under your control.
You can have all of it you want.

These passionate Indies could care less what the marketing boys up on the 26th floor have to say about the latest game trends. Probably because their garages don't have 26 floors. Where do Indies come from?
Indie game developers come from all different areas. They're often former artists, programmers, or designers of some big name software companies. Maybe that quiet little programmer in that tiny corner cubicle dreams of being an Indie one day. Tired of the corporate rat race, and looking to express themselves creatively they become Indies. Some of been lucky enough to avoid the corporate avenue altogether and make a living doing what they love from the beginning. Regardless of their origins, they all have the passion and desire to create. To be able to put their name on something really great. They want to be recognized for their abilities and worth. But more than that, they want you to play their games, and have fun doing so.
Why are Indie games so good?
Indie games are good first and foremost, because they're fun. It's a game after all, and if it's not fun from the get go, then what's the point. They're also highly original, sometimes mainstream funny, sometimes just weird funny, sometimes morbid, sometimes creepy, and sometimes just downright gross. But, thats OK. Computer Game on Mars; Design for Communication Device

Powering up hand held wireless devices in the field for Business Uses, Educational Issues, Monitoring Sensors for Security Purposes or Blue Force Tracking for military troops in the field for net-centric warfare is possible even in the most remote locations can be possible using simple principles which will provide small amounts of energy. There are a few new innovative ways to do this, which appear to have been overlooked. One is to have an inflatable sphere or beach ball with inner reflective skin, which is reflective on the inside, which can take on light waves or UV from the sun or energy in the form of waves that can be sent energy from afar, by chemical laser, regular laser (beach ball would have the reactionary coating and chemical), directional sound waves, microwave, etc.
The inflated sphere would act like a black hole taking in the waves inside and then reflecting them all around in the inside without allowing them to leave. Picture a silver beach ball with a circular section, which is clear on the outside surface facing the incoming energy source. Now picture a cone shaped area protruding from the center towards the clear circular patch on the surface of the beach ball facing the opening. The cone would be pointed outward and as it neared the center it would have a hat shape with a brim reflecting the waves into the center to bounce around and would trap the waves bouncing around within. These waves would bombard each other while hitting them selves and thus retain power and depending on the gas inside increase the molecule interaction inside.
The line holding the inflated sphere ball tethered from the ground would be a power cord, which would have a system to charge 200-300 batteries for the hand held devices. The laser could bean the energy from a plane, satellite vehicle in the distance, ground reflector on a nearby hill facing the balloon and concentrating the beam to the area where the clear round patch was where the waves take in the energy to the center of the ball.
For energy on Mars to charge batteries the ball could be tied down by multiple tethers and a series of these could deliver and store energy. Areas of dust devils many balls could be set up to collect the static energy from the dust devils and store it for battery charging. These units could be set up near a base station for a colony and contribute to it's power supply and help in recharging the batteries of robotic exploring units. Dust storms could also be created fairly easily, especially in areas on the surface of Mars where they are readily prevalent.
Creating dust storms, which would be used for the energy to power up batteries would not be too difficult, as the patterns of wind are predictable in such situations. Studying the patterns of wind and the patterns of erosion on Mars will be much simpler than doing so on Earth with a more complex atmosphere.
The energy created will be used as energy to send data and charge batteries and power for the base station. Small amounts of weather control in simple environments is very practical. As we have read in Creighton's "Prey" the organically modified organisms used the sun to generate energy for them to motivate, assimilate and take on new shapes, this can give us clues as to how best to use what's available for our own needs. It maybe possible to create a perpetual dust devil and have a permanent energy source. The book Prey is not so far off if we consider the possibilities of SmartDust in 20-30 or so years, combined with the mapping and modifying of DNA, RNA, proteins and enzymes. If SmartDust can be controlled using waves of sound, light, UV, heat, etc. An organic system of smart dust particles could be put into a vertical tube structure with a slit opening on one side, which allows in the wind and spins the dust around and around unable to escape due to the direction of travel, the dust would also be forced to stay in the rotating pattern by waves set at a certain frequency to stay within the repeating patterns necessary to retain the SmartDust without allowing to escape the system.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Home Theater ? Without Spending a Fortune

So you've scraped and saved, now you've finally gotten together a semi-respectable home theater system. You want even more, but the idea of spending another few thousand on new front speakers doesn't cut it. What can you do?
There are ways to get the most out of what you have without breaking the bank. There are several areas you can look at to ensure your theater is set up correctly and performing at its best.
Cables and Interconnects ? It's imperative the signals are transferred from your source components to your speakers, going through various components along the way, with the least amount of degradation. Make sure your audio, video and speaker cables are all of good quality and that none are old and corroded. You can use contact enhancer to be sure the connection is really good. Calibration ? Your video display will definitely not look its best without proper calibration. Manufacturers have a dismal record when it comes to calibrating sets at the factory. Most are TVs designed to look their best on the showroom floor, not in your home theater. In fact, a CRT based rear projection TV can have its life dramatically shortened by improper calibration.
The contrast is invariably set too high to make the set stand out in the showroom environment. This sells more TVs but causes premature tube wear. Acoustic Improvements ? These encompass a whole host of different things, from acoustically treating the interior of the room, to quieting down your projector. Whenever you lower your noise floor, you effectively increase your dynamic range. In addition, acoustic treatments can dramatically improve dialogue intelligibility, bass response and imaging.
One of the best in the "bang for the buck" category is to put a 1" or 2" thick, acoustic panel on the two side walls of the theater to reduce the "first reflection". The first reflection is the sound that leaves the front speaker and takes a longer path to your ears by bouncing off the side wall on the way. Since it takes a longer path, it takes more time and arrives later than the direct sound that went straight from the speakers to your ears. The net effect is a loss of dialog intelligibility.
To find the correct placement for the acoustic material, sit at the listening position, place a small mirror on the side wall and move it until you can see the front speaker. When you can, that is the spot to center the acoustic panel.
Another, even cheaper, tweak is to optimize your subwoofer placement. For years people have been told "Bass is non-directional. You can put your sub anywhere". That is, simply, BS. While low bass is fairly non-directional, the tonal quality and amount of bass is tremendously affected by subwoofer placement. A simple trick is to place the sub at the listening position (at ear height), then move around the room (at sub height) until you find the place with the best bass quality. If possible, that's where you put the sub.
You can build a hush box around your projector to minimize noise from it. Make sure you use adequate ventilation to maintain proper cooling. That cannot be emphasized enough. As a partial measure, without having to build a whole box, you can place acoustic absorption material on the ceiling above the projector. If your projector is close to the ceiling, this will kill the noise that normally bounces off the ceiling and into the listening room.

11 Tips for Stripping Wallpaper: How to Get Rid of Ugly Wallpaper

I broke my promise to myself and stripped wallpaper again. The only reason I did this is for $100,000 profit. My family and I did not have time to wait for professional help. We sold our investment property before finishing the work and needed the home ready for appraisal.
While stripping the wallpaper, I realized that many homemakers get wrong advice for this horrendous task. After years of experience on 28 houses, I offer my tried and best tips:
1. Use a clothes steamer or rent a professional steamer2. Soak a large section of the wall3. Run a "Paper Tiger" scoring tool across the damp section4. Steam the section again5. Spray the section with fabric softener and hot water6. Score the section with the paper tiger again7. Steam again8. Remove any curling edges (sometimes large areas peel off)9. Scrape with a six inch sheetrock blade10. Repeat the above steps on the section until most scrapes off easily11. Scrub with hot water, TSP, and a sponge with a scratchy surface

Designing Your Log Home: Tips To Keep You Out of Trouble

Nearly every log home is a custom design, whether you are altering a stock plan or starting from scratch. By their very nature, custom floor plans open up a large number of untested challenges - especially if you are trying to design the house yourself. With almost all log home manufacturers, an in-house architect will take your design and turn it into a set of drawings that conform to their building system. Your home will be structurally sound. However, don't necessary expect them to point out every inconvenience or snafu in your design. This is a hands-on business, and in the end, your house design is on you... and you'll have to live with it. Here are a few pointers I can suggest to make your design more efficient.
MECHANICALS: Open floor plans are the essence of the modern log home. They make a home feel larger, and keep the cook from feeling isolated. However, if you have a second floor you need to consider how you are going to get the plumbing, the electric and the ductwork (both supply and return) to the upstairs rooms. You won't be using the exterior walls for that, so you need to create enough interior walls downstairs to fit all the mechanicals. Each object in all likelihood will take its own space between the 2x4s. Even if you use radiant-floor heating, you'll need ductwork for the air conditioning. There are some systems that use high-pressure ductwork much smaller in diameter than conventional ducts, so there are other possibilities if you are pressed for space. But the best solution is to think ahead. If you're tempted to use an interior full-log wall (or none at all), you may be sacrificing an opportunity to get more ductwork upstairs.
PLUMBING: The wisest floor plans are the ones that try to keep the bathrooms together (either back-to-back or one directly above the other) and the shortest runs on the plumbing. This can't always be done, but when placing the upstairs bathroom, try to line it up with an interior downstairs wall. This way the plumbing doesn't have to snake all over the place.
CLOSETS: I would venture to guess that log homes are usually notoriously short on closet space. I know my home is. First of all, it would be a terrible waste to put a closet against an exterior log wall. Why hide your beautiful logs? And because we try to keep the square footage down to a minimum, it almost seems a crime to waste precious space on closets. However, there's more than one reason to include them. Not only do we seem to collect more stuff as we get older, but by law in several states the closet determines whether a room is a bedroom or an office. This could affect the resale (or refinancing) of your house. Here is a suggestion: put two closets side-by-side on the wall separating two rooms; the closets may not be huge, but it doesn't change the shape of the rooms. Try to include a coat closet near your front door.
WINDOWS: As I'm sure you've already read many times, you can't have too many windows in a log home. The wood sucks up the light like a sponge. If you have a large empty wall, the insertion of a window near the peak not only lets in more light, it adds character. Some people add windows along either side of a shed dormer. In my case, I had to move the roof line to increase the size of my bedroom window, because by code it needed to be 6' square for egress. In any upstairs bedroom you'll need your windows to be large enough to climb out in case of fire. Also remember that too many direct-set windows will decrease the amount of air flow to your upstairs. In my house I added an awning (a small hinged window) to the bottom of stationery windows in my dormers. This helped let air in, but even so the rooms can be stuffy. A ceiling fan helps, but ultimately I may need to add a skylight to create a draft.
KITCHEN VENT: One of the more difficult decisions we made concerned how to vent the range hood. If you don't want your stove to be on an exterior wall, you are going to have an interesting puzzle. Will you run the exhaust duct between the floor joists to the exterior? Will the run be so long you'll have to add another fan? I gave in and moved my stove to the exterior wall, but then we had to cut a hole in the logs for the vent. Horrors! How do you hide that? My builder built a little cedar box around the hole and we were lucky enough to have a porch roof underneath, so you can't see it from every direction. Still, this ugly vent is on the front of the house, and had I thought of it, I may have moved the kitchen to the back of the house.
CRAWL SPACE vs. BASEMENT: There are many reasons to opt for a crawl space rather than a basement - none of them particularly comfortable. Aside from the obvious disadvantages of a crawl space, there are a few things we didn't think of. I, in my blissful ignorance, didn't give any thought to the ugly electrical panel. Of course, I knew we'd have meters and a panel, but I didn't think of where they were going. What I didn't know was that by code, we couldn't put the panel in the crawl space. Since we don't have a garage, the electrical panel was installed in one of our rooms on the log wall. Isn't that lovely? Another disadvantage of the crawl space: you'll need a short water heater if that's where it is going, and you may need to purchase a horizontal-mount furnace. Because our water quality was poor, we had to install a purification system. This 54" unit must be mounted upright, and our crawl space is 48" tall. We had to punch a hole through the concrete floor to make room for the unit.
GUTTERS: Yes, you want to get the water away from your log home at all costs. There can be challenges; we have an alpine-style home with a vaulted ceiling. However, the roof comes to a deep V on the corners that create a magnificent rain chute. This is not necessarily wonderful when it dumps onto your deck! Because of the generous overhang that comes with a log home, the end of that V projects far from the walls and doesn't make a logical angle from which to hang a downspout. On one corner I satisfied myself with an old-fashioned rain barrel, and on the deck side we had to divert the water to the pergola we built against the house, and ran a gutter along the edge of the pergola.
OVERHANGS: You should have at least a 1' foot and preferably a 2' overhang to protect your logs. This overhang needs to be taken into consideration when designing your roof line. If you have overlapping angles, make sure you are not creating a water trap or a snow trap. There are times your overhang might bump into another angle of the roof. You may actually have to raise part of the roof a little to make clearance.
DOOR SWINGS: This can be one of the most annoying errors you can make and not catch until too late. Think of what your door is covering when opened all the way. Is it covering another doorway? Will two doors bang together? If you are in a tight space, will it open all the way at all? When we installed our bathroom vanity, we didn't think about the door swing until the plumbing was already hooked up. The door cleared the vanity by one whole inch; it could have been worse. You can compensate by swinging the other way (before it's already hung, or your hinges will be on the wrong side). Or, in the design phase you can use a narrower door. Or get a smaller vanity.
ELECTRICAL: The electrical and plumbing layout will not come from your log home architectural drawings. The manufacturer is not concerned about where you put your outlets. Once the plans are firmed up, the time will come for you to sit down with the electrician and mark exactly where you want your outlets, switches and light fixtures. Local code will determine the minimum distance between outlets, but anyone will tell you to put in more than you need; eventually you will probably use them anyway. Even if you don't need it, put your cable and telephone into every room; it's so much easier and cheaper to do it up front. Also remember, you can't ever have too many lights in a log home. Plan ahead for those fixtures - especially the ones in the ceiling. They will not be pretty to add later on.
DEAD SPACE: If you are building a huge log home, you've got so much space it doesn't really matter. But for most of the rest of us, every inch counts. There are some approaches that might maximize your floor space. First of all, do you really need hallways? Some space-saving designs arrange the rooms so they all open into a small hallway. I prefer none at all. Also, consider that every closet door creates dead space. If you can arrange your floor plan so that closet door swings into a place which is already dead (for instance, another closet door or a foyer), you might open up the room a bit. Does your loft serve a purpose or is it merely an open hallway from room to room? Can you put a piece of furniture on it? If not, perhaps it would serve to give it an angle and make your "open to below" space a little smaller.
Hopefully I've helped a little bit. I learned many of these tips the hard way, and I'm sure there are plenty more I haven't bumped into yet. After all, a custom home is one giant learning curve.

Six years ago, I had not yet turned on a computer. Today I run several successful Internet Businesses and by me being a single parent of 4 children my friends calls me a marketing expert.
My road to success was one of perseverance. Twelve hours a day, Seven days a week, learning code, mastering submission techniques, building web sites and databases. To think only six years age, I was stuck up in a office eight hours a day and not at home. Here's my story...

And, bloggers tend to be blind to internet ads. That means they don’t click on Adsense ads or any other ads for that matter (including banner ads and video ads).
So, if you have a website (or blog) that has a target audience of non-internet-savvy visitors, you can earn multiple times more money. That means, don’t write a blog about SEO, a blog about how to make money online, or a blog about blogging. Those are the types of blogs that attract other bloggers and bloggers don’t click on ads. You can write about a topic that is of interest to a general audience, or a niche non-internet related topic and you’ll earn more money. That’s how you make money online!
